Letter to Expectant Parent(s)

Hi! Thanks so much for looking at our profile!

We respect you so much for choosing life for your child.

We were married a little over 2 years ago in our church. We met online, of all things, early in 2015, and every day we think about how amazing it is that we met this way, and how lucky we are to have each other! We're kind of a unique couple - we were a little older when we married than a lot of our friends were (Jason was 38, Kathryn was 32) but we feel that has made us a more stable couple. We are romantics in our own way. We understand each other very well, and each knows how to make the other feel loved. We make each other laugh, and we love to spend time together playing games, watching funny TV shows, and enjoying our three cats. Maybe the thing we most have in common is our shared nerdiness - we love to read and learn, both of us have masters' degrees, and Jason is a teacher!

When it became apparent that we would not be able to conceive a child on our own, we decided it was more important that we parent a child than that our child have a genetic connection to us, so we began exploring adoption in earnest.

Jason's older sister was adopted, and maybe that helped us picture building our family this way. It seems natural to us because it was so natural for his family. We can picture Jason helping a child with his math homework, or Kathryn reading a book with her. We look forward to things like cooking as a family, playing games, going for walks and attending church together. We can't wait to share our favorite things, like Doctor Who and Wonder Woman (Kathryn) and Charlie Brown and UK Basketball (Jason).

We have so much respect for the decisions expectant parents must make when they make an adoption plan. Because of that, we want to work together to establish a level of openness that everyone is comfortable with, and that honors the expectant parents' position in the life of the child. We will be thrilled to share pictures and updates on how the child is doing through the year, and keep in touch through a designated email and/or phone number. Visits once or twice in a year in a kid-friendly location like a park or a McDonalds' playground also sound like fun, if the expectant parents want!

You are in our prayers as you make this decision.
